2008 TBF of Maine Junior Angler State Championship

Auburn, ME (June 1, 2008) – The TBF of Maine held their Junior Angler State Championship on Auburn Lake on Sunday. 27 kids and 20 boat captains from various towns throughout the state participated in this event. It turned out to be a great day of fishing with the winning catches at over 17 pounds. The participants were split up into two age groups, 11-14 and 15-18. The winner in each age group will represent Maine in the 2008 National Guard Junior World Championship to be held on Lake Monticello in Columbia South Carolina. The NGJWC will take place on August 14-18.

We were greeted by Sgt. Paul Shaw of the Army National Guard in the morning. SGT. Shaw arrived in an official military Hummer with T-shirts and hats to give to the participants. He helped us to set up for the event and hand out awards at the end of the tournament.

The Winner in the 11-14 year age group was Jake Winslow from Poland. He came in with a catch weighing 17 lbs, 3oz. Jake’s Boat captain was Jason Mitsin from Hollis, who is also a returning member of the 2008 TBF of Maine State Team.

The Winner in the 15-18 year age group was Nick Sampson from Gorham. This is Nick’s second State Championship. He represented Maine in 2007 in Hot Springs, Arkansas and came in 6th in the country for his age group. Nick’s Boat Captain was Dwayne Turnage from Hollis, who is also a member of the 2008 TBF of Maine State Team.
