2009 TBF of Maine Youth State Championship

TBF Maine President John Trask, Nick Sampson, Youth Director Jessica MitsinJune 7, 2009 - We had a good turnout for our Annual Youth State Championship. Anglers of all ages from all over the state participated in the event held in Oakland on Messalonskee Lake. It was a beautiful day, we could not have asked for better weather. The kids were competing for a chance at the National Guard Junior World Championship to be held this August in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was nice to see a lot of familiar faces as well as a few new ones.

Dylan Ricci, 12 of Standish will be representing our state in the 11-14 year age division. In 2nd place was Zack Bessette, 13 of Readfield. Zach also won Lunker with a 4.69 lb Large Mouth. 3rd Place went to Kaitlyn Deering, 11 of Portland.

Nick Sampson, 17 of Gorham won for the 15-18 year age division. This is Nick’s 3rd time representing us at the Youth Nationals. He won for the Eastern Division and came in 6th over all at the 2008 NGJWC in Columbia, South Carolina. He also won our division in 2007 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Special Thanks: To Pepsi for donating soda for the Post-Tournament Barbeque. Eric Guimond of Boomer’s Baits for donating prizes for the Lunker Winners. Oakland Parks and Recreation for providing us with the perfect spot to hold our tournament. Once again, Eric Guimond for providing a grill and being our personal chef for the day!!! Angela Jurdak from Messalonskee Middle School for giving students at her school the opportunity to fish. Last, but definitely not least, Ray Sampson for being my right-hand man 3 years running.

A very special thanks to all of the boat captains who donated their time, boats, and fuel to bring the kids fishing. Without you, this would not have been possible: Jason Mitsin, Dwayne Turnage, Laurence Hogue, Vic Bacon, Scott Barker, Bryan Mooney, Louis Deering, Dave Austin, Toby Suttie, Joe Karney, Todd Chilton, Bill Buttler, Scott Guimond, John Trask, Tony Gagne, Greg Bartlett, John Volkernick, and Mark Desjardins. Great Pond Annual youth Event

On May 16th Millennium Bass along with members from Western Maine Anglers, hosted its annual youth event on Great Pond in Belgrade. It was the second year we paired up with students from Messalonskee High School as they were treated to a fun day of tournament fishing, capped off by a barbecue fit for any hungry angler. All students were outfitted with a rod and reel and more tackle than they knew what to do with. Full story & photos
